LaLota in D.C. Demanding Schumer Reopen the Government

October 31, 2025

Washington, D.C. Congressman Nick LaLota (NY-01)released the following statement after joining House Speaker Mike Johnson, House Republican Leadership, and members of New York’s Republican Delegation at a press conference urging Senate Democrats to end the Schumer Shutdown, reopen the government, and protect SNAP benefits ahead of the November 1 deadline:

“On the 30th day of the Schumer Shutdown, I stood in Washington with House Republican Leadership and my New York colleagues to call on Senator Schumer to stop catering to the far-left extremes of his party, figures like Zohran Mamdani and AOC. We urged New York’s senior senator to do the right thing: reopen the government and end the uncertainty and hardship facing SNAP recipients, Long Island’s Coast Guardsmen, Brookhaven National Lab scientists, air traffic controllers, and 31,000 federal employees. We can debate the rest of the nation’s business after the government is reopened and innocent Americans are no longer being used as leverage. As a lifelong Long Islander, I know what’s at stake, and I’ll continue standing up against this reckless shutdown—for common sense, responsible governance, and the hardworking families who keep our communities strong.”
