Congressman Nick LaLota Presents over $2 Million in Federal Funding for Suffolk County Law Enforcement

YAPHANK, NY — Congressman Nick LaLota (R-Suffolk County) yesterday presented $2.025 million to the Suffolk County Police Department and Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office for vehicle fleet improvements which he secured through the Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations process.

LaLota was joined by Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina, Suffolk County Undersheriff John Becker, and local officials for the check presentations at Suffolk County Police Department headquarters.

The $825,000 for the Suffolk County Police Department will support the acquisition of new police vehicles. The $1.2 million for the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office will support fleet enhancements and help ensure deputies have reliable vehicles to carry out their duties.

“Our men and women in Law Enforcement put their lives on the line every day to keep Suffolk County one of the safest counties in America. We must make sure they have the resources to do that job safely and effectively. This $2 million in federal funds brings more of our tax dollars back to Suffolk County. As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I have a front-row seat to how Washington spends your money, and I’m going to keep bringing it back here to support our Cops, our Sheriffs, our public safety and our way of life,” said Congressman Nick LaLota.

“The $2 million that is going to Law Enforcement today is going to go a long way in helping to augment a severely depleted force of vehicles that we have in the Suffolk County Police Department. We're now going to be able to purchase 15 vehicles as a result of the over $800,000 that Congressman LaLota and his staff were generous enough to give to us. That's going to help the men and women of Suffolk County Police Department not only be safer but keep the people of Suffolk County safer as well,” said Suffolk County Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina. 

“On behalf of both Sheriff Toulon and the men and women of the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office, I want to thank Congressman LaLota for his continued support of Law Enforcement and for securing this $1.2 million grant. This funding is a significant investment in the sheriff's office fleet and will allow us to purchase approximately 15 vehicles, both marked and unmarked. Our vehicles are one of the most important tools that our Deputy Sheriffs utilize every single day. Our personnel need safe and reliable vehicles to do their jobs effectively,” said Suffolk County Undersheriff John Becker.

The funding is part of LaLota’s broader effort to bring federal resources back to Suffolk County. 

As the only Republican from the Northeast serving on the powerful House Appropriations Committee, Congressman Nick LaLota delivered $27.1 million in Community Project Funding (CPF) for 15 projects across New York's First Congressional District through the FY2026 appropriations process. That total ranked third among all 26 New York congressional districts, demonstrating LaLota's effectiveness in bringing Long Islanders' tax dollars back home to invest in clean water, infrastructure, and public safety projects benefiting county, town, and village governments.
