LaLota Escorts Israeli President Isaac Herzog for Address to Congress
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, July 19th, 2023, Rep. Nick LaLota (NY-01) released the following statement welcoming Israeli President Isaac Herzog to Washington as a member of the escort committee with Congressional leadership. LaLota was selected by House leadership due to his unwavering commitment to supporting Israel.
“I am honored to be able to welcome President Herzog to the U.S. Capitol to address members of the House and Senate and be a part of the escort committee to lead him into the chamber,” said LaLota. “With the current rise in anti-semitism and hateful rhetoric, we must continue to condemn racist actions and reaffirm our commitment to support Israel. As our most important ally in the Middle East, I will always strongly support Israel’s sovereignty and work to ensure they are able to defend themselves.”
Background:
Earlier this week, LaLota voted to help pass a resolution stating that the State of Israel is not a racist or apartheid state, condemning all forms of antisemitism and xenophobia, and reaffirming the United States’ commitment to supporting Israel.
Earlier this year, LaLota, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, traveled with a bipartisan Congressional delegation to visit Israel, led by Speaker Kevin McCarthy. During the trip, LaLota proudly reaffirmed his commitment to support Israel while meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Isaac Herzog, and Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana to discuss important issues, including security assistance, intelligence sharing, and the important Abraham Accords.
