May 16, 2024

Scored Higher than 85% of His Colleagues

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Rep. Nick LaLota (R-Suffolk County) was named one of the most bipartisan Members of Congress by the Lugar Center and Georgetown University.

“I promised Suffolk County residents that I would always prioritize results over rhetoric. As a member of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus and the For Country Caucus, I've championed collaboration and common sense,” said LaLota.  “In my first year, I’ve had four of my bills pass the House with bipartisan support, secured over $150 million in federal funding for Suffolk County, and supported key legislation to improve the lives of Americans. I have worked tirelessly to find common ground and deliver for Long Islanders every day. I will continue to work with anyone who shares my commitment to putting our country ahead of party.”

Background:

Of 436 Members ranked, LaLota was the 65th most bipartisan member of the House and the 15th most bipartisan freshman of either party.

The Lugar Center and Georgetown University Bipartisan Index measures how often a member of Congress introduces bills that succeed in attracting co-sponsors from members of the other party, and how often they, in turn, co-sponsor a bill introduced from across the aisle. The Index is based on a formula applied uniformly to all members. No subjective judgments are made about individual members or bills. The Index is intended to serve as a critical resource for voters and the media and to encourage lawmakers to be more bipartisan when writing or co-sponsoring legislation.

The House Problem Solvers Caucus is a bipartisan group within the House of Representatives dedicated to fostering cooperation and finding common ground on key legislative issues. Formed in 2017, the caucus is composed of an equal number of Democratic and Republican members who are committed to working across party lines to address the nation's most pressing challenges. The group's primary focus is on promoting pragmatic solutions and effective governance, emphasizing dialogue and collaboration over partisan politics. The Problem Solvers Caucus has been instrumental in advancing bipartisan legislation on a range of issues, including infrastructure, healthcare, and immigration. Through its efforts, the caucus aims to break the legislative gridlock and restore trust in the political process by demonstrating that constructive cooperation can lead to meaningful and sustainable policy outcomes.

The House For Country Caucus is a bipartisan group in the House of Representatives focused on promoting principled leadership and putting the country’s interests above partisan politics. Formed by military veterans and service-oriented members, the caucus aims to foster unity, civility, and collaboration in Congress. Its members, who come from diverse political backgrounds, share a commitment to servant leadership and a desire to address national issues with integrity and honor.  The For Country Caucus seeks to support legislation that strengthens national security, supports veterans and military families, and enhances civic engagement. By prioritizing country over party, the caucus works to bridge divides and find common ground on policies that benefit all Americans. Through its efforts, the For Country Caucus strives to restore public trust in government and demonstrate that effective and ethical governance is possible through bipartisan cooperation.
