Progressive Protestors Decline LaLota’s Meeting Invitation, LaLota Announces Next Town Hall Meeting

February 20, 2025

SUFFOLK COUNTY – After progressive protesters led a Monday demonstration demanding Congressman LaLota (R-Suffolk) answer questions in person about President Trump and Elon Musk, all five protest leaders declined his Thursday offer to meet face-to-face in LaLota’s district office. Later, LaLota announced his 21st Town Hall meeting since taking office, a March 5th telephone town hall where he expects more than 10,000 constituents to participate.

"While I’m disappointed that the protest leaders declined my invitation to engage in a respectful discussion, I’m deeply troubled by the hateful and inappropriate signs displayed during their demonstration, including references to Nazis and explicit imagery. Such divisive tactics do nothing to foster meaningful conversation. I believe in addressing issues with respect and dignity, which is why I’m offering my 21st Town Hall on March 5th, where over 10,000 constituents can come together to have a real, productive dialogue,” said LaLota.

Congressman LaLota’s 21st town hall is a tele-town hall scheduled for Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at 6:00pm. Constituents may participate by signing up at lalota.house.gov/townhall.

The invitation to the progressive groups provided 24 hours' notice and offered to adjust the Congressman’s schedule to accommodate a meeting if the invitees confirmed their availability. It was sent via email on Wednesday to contacts the Congressman’s office had on file, as well as publicly available information for the Long Island Network for Change, Suffolk Progressives, Progressive East End Reformers, LI Activists, and the Long Island Progressive Coalition.

On Wednesday, three of the five invited groups—Long Island Network for Change, Suffolk Progressives, and LI Activists—affirmatively declined Congressman LaLota’s invitation to meet, citing scheduling conflicts. The remaining two groups, Long Island Progressive Coalition and Progressive East End Reformers, did not respond to the invitation.
