LaLota Votes to Put American Workers First and Take on Communist China

January 11, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Representative Nick LaLota (R-Suffolk County, NY) released the following statement after voting to overturn the Biden Administration’s rule to waive Buy American requirements for Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations purchased using American taxpayer dollars.

“Supporting Buy American and Made in America requirements bolster our economy, promote job growth, and support American workers. To the contrary, creating loopholes or waivers to send American tax dollars to the Chinese Communist Party is ludicrous,” said LaLota. “Our federal government should strengthen our nation’s pro-America policies by investing in American workers, infrastructure, and products rather than creating loopholes to avoid doing so.”

Background:

In 2023, the Biden Administration’s Federal Highway Administration issued a rule that would waive Buy American requirements for Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations purchased using American taxpayer dollars as required under the Inflation Reduction Act.

Since entering office in 2023, LaLota has consistently supported American workers, including voting across party lines to do so.

In May 2023, LaLota crossed party lines to protect Long Island workers and local energy jobs.

In April 2023, LaLota helped introduce the bipartisan National Apprenticeship Act to increase apprenticeship opportunities, streamline access to apprenticeships for workers and employers, and expand apprenticeships into new in-demand industry sectors and occupations.

In January 2023, LaLota joined a letter to Governor Hochul calling on her to rescind the state’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate on healthcare workers to ensure New York state had enough qualified healthcare workers.
