LaLota to Biden, Hochul, and Adams: “Changing Your Policies Will Thwart Migrant Crisis, More Free Stuff Will Perpetuate It.”

February 7, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Rep. Nick LaLota (R-Suffolk County), a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, led his New York Republican colleagues in sending letters to President Biden, Governor Hochul, and Mayor Adams slamming them for incentivizing the migrant crisis instead of enforcing existing laws and changing the policies which are causing it.

“Instead of throwing more of our tax dollars at the migrant crisis the Governor and Mayor Adams must seriously address the issue by fixing the underlying issues related to the migrant crisis. We can start by reversing anti-law and order sanctuary policies and not giving undocumented migrants taxpayer-funded credit cards,” said LaLota. “Not addressing the underlying issues will not fix the problem and has the potential to exacerbate it. They need to stop gaslighting New Yorkers and fix their bad policies that created this crisis.”

Background:

In the letter to Biden, the members expressed frustration at the Administration’s failures to enforce America’s border security laws, refusal to reinstate effective policies including Remain in Mexico, ending catch and release, and stopping the repositioning of border agents away from the border.

In the letter to Hochul and Adams, the members highlighted the cause of New York City’s migrant crisis as the result of open border policies, sanctuary cities, and taxpayer-funded housing, healthcare, and credit cards for migrants. The members also expressed outrage regarding the new $53 million contract that was awarded to give away free prepaid credit cards to migrants in New York City. Additionally, the members expressed their displeasure with the Governor’s budget proposal, which would significantly cut funding from certain school districts while proposing nearly $2.4 billion to continue the migrant crisis in New York City.
