LaLota Votes to Support Israel in War Against Terrorists and Hold Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran Accountable

November 3, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. - This week, New York First Congressional District Representative Nick LaLota (R-Suffolk County) voted in support of several bills to hold Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah accountable and support the United States’ greatest ally, Israel. This included voting to help pass H.R. 6126, the (link is external)Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act(link is external). The bill would provide $14.3 billion in emergency supplemental appropriation funding to support Israel following the response to the attacks by Hamas terrorists on October 7th.

“I am proud to stand with Israel in the face of terrorist attacks from Hamas and Hezbollah, which are Iran-funded cowards with no regard for human life. They exist only to kill and wreak havoc, and they have made it clear they will not rest until Israel no longer exists,” said LaLota. “We are seeing a disturbing rise in antisemitism and the normalization of hate speech at schools, all while Iran continues to develop a nuclear weapon. We must sanction Iran, continue to stand with Israel, continue to combat antisemitism and hatred, and wipe terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah off the face of the earth.”

Background:

H.R. 6126 would ensure American military readiness by providing $4.4 billion to replenish domestic defense stockpiles. To support U.S. personnel and citizens in Israel, $200 million would be provided for an enhanced security presence at the U.S. Embassy and for the evacuation of U.S. citizens.

  • $3.5 billion in Foreign Military Financing for the procurement of advanced weapons systems and defense articles and services;
  • $1.2 billion for the continued development of the Iron Beam system to counter short-range threats and;
  • $1 billion to support artillery and munitions production.

  • H. Res. 559(link is external) would declare it is the policy of the United States that a nuclear Iran is unacceptable
  • H. Res. 599(link is external) would urge the European Union to designate Hezbollah in its entirety as a terrorist organization
  • H. Res. 798(link is external) would condemn the support of Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terrorist organizations at institutions of higher education, which may lead to the creation of a hostile environment for Jewish students, faculty, and staff
