New Yorkers desperately need relief from our state's crushing tax burden, which is the highest in the nation. This excessive taxation is driving residents to flee to states like Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas, where taxes are significantly lower. While it's crucial for Albany to take action and reduce taxes to make New York more affordable, I am fighting in Washington to increase the cap on the state and local tax (SALT) deduction. This would provide much-needed financial relief for New Yorkers and help stem the exodus from our state.

Recently, with overwhelming bipartisan support, Rep. Joe Courtney (D-CT) and I were able to secure the passage of our Long Island Sound Stewardship and Restoration Act. Our bill’s passage represents a critical step forward for environmental preservation and the economic vitality of our coastal communities.

Last Wednesday in Washington, D.C., a joint session of Congress welcomed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his address, where he focused on the ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza, the safe return of hostages, and the broader regional threats posed by Iran. In a break from tradition and as a sign of protest, Vice President Kamala Harris chose not to preside over the joint session.
