LaLota Calls on Biden Administration to Enforce Immigration and Border Security Laws

February 23, 2024

HAUPPAUGE, NY - Today, Rep. Nick LaLota (R-Suffolk County), a member of the Homeland Security Committee, released the following statement calling on President Biden and the Administration to take immediate action to secure the U.S.-Mexico border by enforcing existing immigration and border security laws.

“TODAY, with a stroke of a pen, President Biden could secure the border. Don’t let them fool you. This Administration could take real action, instead of talking, by canceling mass parole, stopping the repositioning of border agents away from the border, resuming construction of the border wall, and banning asylum claims between ports of entry,” said LaLota. “That he won’t take these simple actions and is now using the border and migrant crisis as political leverage to achieve other objectives like amnesty and sanctuary city bailouts is evidence of a willful and systematic plan to subvert our nation’s border security and immigration laws. We don’t need more laws, we need the Executive Branch to enforce existing laws to keep our country safe.”

Background:

In May 2023, LaLota voted in support of H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, legislation that would end fraudulent asylum claims, end “catch and release”, resume construction of the border wall, increase resources of Border Patrol, and close loopholes in the immigration process.
